PCB Design
PCB design for your specific requirements
We handle schematic capture, PCB layout and PCB prototyping in the UK through an established supplier network with fast turnaround. The PCB design service covers the electronics from first circuit through to fabricated boards ready for bench testing.
The Challenge
Why PCB design needs real electrical expertise
Noise coupling, ground loops and thermal problems often emerge at PCB layout because that is where current paths, physical spacing and heat become real. Catch them there and the fix is usually cheap. Find them after fabrication and the project pays for another board turn as well as the time lost waiting for it. Turnaround matters during active development. If every design revision takes two weeks to come back, two or three iterations can add a month to a project before the electronics are even settled.
What's Included
A complete PCB design service
Every engagement covers the parts of the PCB design process the product actually needs, with each decision made around its electrical, mechanical and manufacturing constraints.
1. Schematic Capture
We capture every functional block clearly, including the power supply, sensor interfaces, microcontroller and communications circuitry. Net names stay consistent across the design, and critical signals get annotated test points so the board is easy to debug and someone else can follow the circuit months or years later.
2. Component Selection
Each part is checked against the power budget, expected cost at target volume, lead time and second-source availability. If a component is single-sourced or carries a long supply risk, we flag it early and identify an alternative before it becomes a redesign problem.
3. PCB Layout & Routing
Trace routing and ground-plane design are checked for noise and signal integrity as well as physical fit. On mixed-signal boards, analogue sections are kept away from digital switching noise and RF interference where the design allows it. That comes from working with instrumentation-grade circuitry where a poor layout can impact the performance of an otherwise sound schematic.
4. Mixed-Signal & Low-Noise Design
Low-noise work gets the layout discipline it needs: split ground planes where appropriate, decoupling placed where it actually controls current loops, and controlled-impedance routing on high-speed or RF traces. Our background includes low-noise instrumentation, where small layout mistakes show up immediately in the measurement path.
5. PCB Prototyping
Prototype boards are fabricated and assembled through an established supplier network for fast iteration. We prepare Gerbers or ODB++ alongside a fabrication drawing that calls out the stackup, base material and surface finish, giving the factory enough information to quote and build the board properly.
6. Design Review & Sign-Off
Before release to fabrication, the design gets a second review covering footprints, decoupling, unrouted nets and the match between the PCB stackup and fabrication drawing.
Our Approach
How we approach PCB design
Working on low-noise instrumentation taught us to treat the signal path as the product, because noise added by the electronics can ruin the measurement before software ever sees it. That discipline carries into every board we design, whether it has a sensitive analogue front end or high-speed digital electronics. We use Altium Designer and prototype through an established supplier network with fast turnaround. That speed matters when a board needs two or three revisions, because the project keeps moving instead of spending weeks waiting between changes.
Real Example
PCB design in practice
The Differential Communication Control Node had several nodes sharing one communication bus, so layout had to control the interference between them from the first revision. EMC was part of the placement, routing and grounding decisions from the start.
