EMC Compliance & Design
EMC handled from the outset.
We build EMC considerations into the PCB layout so formal EMC testing is a confirmation step instead of the first serious look at interference. The work covers layout review, grounding, shielding, pre-compliance planning and support through accredited testing where needed.
The Challenge
Why EMC testing shouldn't be a surprise
Formal EMC testing is expensive, and a board that reaches the test house without EMC being considered during layout carries a much higher risk of failure. A late failure can force changes to grounding, shielding or PCB routing while the project is already under schedule pressure. The best leverage is in the first layout revision. Sensible return paths, shielding strategy and trace routing can remove problems before they exist and give the product a much better chance of passing formal testing first time.
What's Included
EMC compliance and design support, end to end
We support the EMC path from early PCB layout review through pre-compliance work and formal testing at an accredited lab.
1. EMC-Aware Layout Review
We review trace routing, ground planes and component placement with EMC in mind. That includes checking return-current paths, decoupling around high-speed switching circuitry and the clearance around RF sections where coupling or detuning could become a problem.
2. Grounding & Shielding Design
Grounding and shielding are designed into the product from the start so there is physical and electrical provision for them where needed. Retrofitting shielding later gets difficult fast, especially when the enclosure is already tight and an antenna has to share the same space.
3. Pre-Compliance Testing Strategy
We plan pre-compliance work around the emissions and immunity risks most likely to affect the product. The aim is to expose those problems while there is still time to change the design, so the formal test-house visit measures an already solid design instead of becoming an expensive debugging session.
4. Noise Injection Testing
We deliberately inject interference and observe how sensing and communication behave under controlled conditions. Repeating the same test across revisions gives a useful comparison, making it clear whether a layout, filtering or grounding change actually improved robustness.
5. Certification Pathway Planning
We map CE, UKCA and FCC requirements against the actual product and the markets it will enter. That gives the project a realistic view of which tests are needed, when they should happen and what they are likely to cost.
6. Test House Liaison
We help prepare for formal EMC testing and can support attendance at an accredited lab. When a test exposes a weakness, we turn the result into specific electrical, layout or mechanical changes that can be acted on by the design team.
Our Approach
How we approach EMC compliance and design
EMC is considered from the first PCB revision, especially on designs with several communicating nodes or a mix of digital, analogue and RF circuitry. Placement, return paths, filtering and physical separation are much easier to fix while the layout is still open than once the enclosure and board shape are frozen. Where formal testing is required, we plan the right certification path and support the test-house process. By that stage the PCB has already had the layout work and pre-compliance thinking needed to give the design the best practical chance of passing first time.
Real Example
EMC-aware design in practice
The Differential Communication Control Node used several nodes on a shared bus, so EMC-aware layout was needed to control interference between them. We also used deliberate noise injection testing to prove that communication remained stable under repeatable interference.

You are preparing for formal EMC testing and want to reduce first-pass risk.
Your product has multiple communicating nodes or mixes digital, analogue and RF circuitry.
A previous design has already failed an EMC test and needs root-cause design work.
You want EMC considered during PCB layout instead of left until certification.
You need help working out which CE, UKCA or FCC requirements apply to the product and target markets.
